Results of Michigan State Police 1987 Vehicle Tests

Each vehicle was subjected to six major types of tests. Results are weighted to reflect the relative importance of each attribute as related to MSP operational requirements. These tests include vehicle dynamics, acceleration, top speed, braking, ergonomics and communication, and fuel economy. The MSP scores each vehicle's overall performance, reviews the manufacturer's bid prices, and calculates a composite score. Vehicles tested included the 5.7 liter (L) Canadian and U.S. models of the Chevrolet Caprice; the 4.3 L Chevrolet Caprice; the 5 L Dodge Diplomat; the 5.8 and 5 L Ford Crown Victoria; the automatic and 5-speed, 5 L Ford Mustang; the 2 and 4 barrel, 5 L Plymouth Gran Fury; and the 2.5 L Plymouth Reliant.
